Re: Happy 22nd Birthday!

Unfortunately I'll always be celebrating my son's birthday on that date, but happy belated birthday TMW! :-)

And fortunately, I see the celebrations are to be a bit later this year!

Re: Requesting botting exception for Claudius

Alright, thanks for the feedback also from those who voted no! I guess I'm fine running Claudius without an official exception from time to time. In case he gets banned, I consider that his own fault. :roll:

Re: Requesting botting exception for Claudius

Alright, it seems one person was against but unfortunately didn't explain why. I'll keep running Claudius from time to time and could try to set it up on a server eventually so he can be more consistently available.

Reid is right that is does cost money. A first rough estimate by Claudius of his ...

Requesting botting exception for Claudius

We have a policy against botting which is loosely interpreted as having a script play TMW while not personally attending the game. As such, purely automated grinding is forbidden and risks punishment by character reset. I think this is in general good for the game, but I'd like to ask for an ...

Re: RFC: Public Task Board

I think a combination makes sense. A wiki page to keep track of the living task board and forum topics about the tasks where it makes sense, of course linked from the wiki page. I don't think it's a good idea to end up with forum posts that need to be edited, that's what we have a wiki for ...

Re: PvP or lack thereof

I guess there are many more reasons for the lack of PvP, but it should definitely help if players don't kill each other in just 1-2 hits. A currently popular PvP game is Brawl Stars, where players usually need at least 4 hits to kill each other (though of course it has many more mechanics to make ...

Re: Coding conventions in the tmwAthena DSL

Since I mentioned it on Discord already, I know at least we have some convenience functions which the scripts were never adjusted for:

mes "[Dummy]";
mes "\"I'm a dummy, not dumb.\"";

Can be written like this now:

mesn;
mesq "I'm a dummy, not dumb.";
Though personally I would like to ...

Re: [DIS] Quest Log Migration

Let me just say I really enjoy seeing our quests get properly tracked in the Quests window, and it's great that you have taken this project upon yourself! Of course it would be nice if others will join in as well, because due to the number of quests and their relatively independence this task would ...

Re: menu cannot handle item list

While trying to revive the getitemname function I found out that it will not be so easy. The reason is that the server does not know the item name at all, at least not what is ultimately displayed by the client. Since the following changes, this name appears only in the client data:

Re: menu cannot handle item list

I can not figure out why functions have been removed, just because they were not being currently used ?
If they were not being used, they were not bothering anyone.

This was 10 years ago, and we can only speculate, since no reason was provided in the commit message. I think it was likely just ...

Re: menu cannot handle item list

I think the solution is basically just to revert this removal of getitemname:

This project started early last year. It took a lot of time, but I don't regret it for a second. I hope others will like ...

Re: variables go away

Putting things in a database has a number of advantages, but how fine-grained this should be in terms of storing inventory or quest variables is another question. I think when you start implementing indexed file read and write you're probably better off just using SQLite, in any case.
